Pool heating

The zero energy swimming pool with SunOwner SPRING hybrid panels

Solar pool heating is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution for maintaining comfortable water temperatures in swimming pools. This method harnesses energy from the sun to heat the pool water, providing an alternative to traditional heating systems.

Solar electricity and hot water to meet the energy needs of swimming pools

With SPRING hybrid solar panels, you can cover all the energy needs of your pool. The front side of the SPRING panel produces electricity to power the electrical devices needed to operate the pool and the back side of the panel produces hot water to heat your pool. In the pool heating configuration, the SPRING panel produces three times more energy than a standard photovoltaic installation for the same surface area. With SunOwner, more comfort and more time in the water!

How does the SunOwner solar pool solution work?

In the pool heating configuration, the SPRING panels produce up to 15% more electricity and 3 times more overall energy (electricity and heat) than a standard photovoltaic panel.

Solar Collectors:

  • Solar collectors, typically installed on the roof or on ground-mounted structures, consist of dark-colored panels designed to absorb sunlight efficiently.

Circulation System:

  • A circulation pump directs pool water through the solar collectors.
  • As the water circulates through these panels, it absorbs the sun’s energy, causing its temperature to rise.

Automatic Controller:

  • An automatic controller monitors both the temperature of the pool water and the solar collectors.
  • When the pool water is cooler than the desired temperature and the collectors are warmer than the pool water, the controller activates the pump to circulate water through the collectors for heating.

Heat Exchange or Filtration:

  • Some systems use a heat exchanger to transfer the collected solar heat to the pool water.
  • In other configurations, the pool filter may serve as a heat exchanger, allowing the heated water to mix with the pool water before returning to the pool.

Check Valve:

  • A check valve prevents the cooled pool water from flowing back through the solar collectors during periods of inactivity.

Benefits of Solar Pool Heating:

Cost Savings:

  • Solar pool heating systems can significantly reduce or eliminate the need for conventional heating methods, such as electric or gas heaters, resulting in cost savings on energy bills.

Environmentally Friendly:

  • By harnessing energy from the sun, solar pool heating reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources, lowering the overall carbon footprint associated with pool maintenance.

Extended Swimming Season:

  • Solar heating allows pool owners to extend the usability of their pools, enjoying comfortable water temperatures for a more extended period, especially during cooler seasons.

Low Maintenance:

  • Solar pool heating systems are generally low maintenance, with fewer mechanical components than traditional heating systems. Routine checks and occasional cleaning are typically sufficient.

Government Incentives:

  • Some regions offer government incentives, rebates, or tax credits to promote the adoption of solar pool heating systems, making them a financially attractive option for pool owners.
